The Dandenong Journal - Thu 9 Jan 1930 - Page 4

NEW YEAR WELCOMED, QUIET RECEPTION AT DANDENONG.

Although Christmas Even in Dande-
nong was the occasion for busy scenes
and much jollity, New Year’s Eve for
some elusive reason was practically
the reverse.
Lonsdale street suffered ho conges-
tion, and horse play and vandalism
were non existant. The local police
report having a very quiet time, the
only incident to come under notice
being when several youths pushed a
buggy from its resting place into the
roadway. However, when cautioned,
it was wheeled back undamaged, and
order was again restored. Over in-
dulgence in “the glass that cheers”
was strangely absent also. Only one
citizen was taken to the police station,
and he was discharged later, minus
the customary fine.
White-washed figures representing
the New Year appeared on very few
fences and walls—another tribute to
the efficiency and surveillance of the
local force. Summed up, the opening
of the New Year was one of the
quietest on record—many residents
prefering to give parties in their own
homes, while many others visited
dance halls and other entertainments.

Oakwood park Riding School late 50's. Also the home of 11th Dandenong Cub Scouts 1960's, Irving Street takes its name from the famous equestrian rider Miss Kay Irving.

The old stalls were used as a scout hall by 11th & 14th Dandenong North scout group on corner Heyington and Mollison in Oakwood Park. Formally know as the Oaks.
