Mayfair Theatre/Arcade, 170 Thomas Street, Dandenong, Undated

The Mayfair Theatre/Arcade included the Ice-Cream shop, Fish and Chip shop, Photographer, Hairdresser, Barber, Dress shop and Wool shop on the corner, there was a Butcher shop at the other end.

  1. My father used to take me to the Mayfair from the age of about seven either Tuesday or Thursday nights when my mother didnt want to go.We always sat in the front row of the back stalls.
    It was remodeled and upgraded when wide screen Cinemascope came in about 1957 It only lasted for another 10 years before being sold and demolished in 1968.
    It also had very good acoustics I think due to the high ceiling.
    Male patrons used to stand outside the Milk Bar /Canteen on Walker Street at interval smoking.
