Corner of Lonsdale & Walker Streets, Dandenong, 1850s.

One of the first buildings in Dandenong was the Dandenong Hotel built by George K. Dunbar in the late 1840's to early 50's. There was also Dunn's Hotel, a shanty located nearby in Thomas Street near the corner of Foster Street and a few other various structures scattered around the area.

During its short life, the hotel building was also used as a store and post office. and being the most pretentious house in the district, all public functions were held there.

Photographed at Dunbar’s Hotel. From Left: Back row: Mrs. G. K. Dunbar, Mr. G. K. Dunbar, Mr. Thos. Patterson, Mrs. W. Bartlett, Mr. Hurlstone. Front row: Mrs. O. Potter, Mrs. A. W. Bowman, Mr. O. Potter, Mr. A. W. Bowman.
